Professor Ernst-Ulrich Petersmann was invited to Xiamen Academy of International Law to give lectures on “METHODOLOGICAL PROBLEMS IN INTERNATIONAL ECONOMIC LAW (IEL) AND ADJUDICATION”. He started his first lecture with a general picture of the International economic Law and WTO. Due to his international law practicing as legal advisor in the German Ministry of Economic Affairs, GATT and the WTO (1978-2014), he has a very unique perspective on GATT and WTO dispute settlement panels affairs. He is a real scholar who loves to inspire students with examples and questions and he prepared reading materials for each lecture and emailed them to students in advance. He is so popular that there are no empty seats left in every class. And we can always see him energetic and passionate in class even he is so aged. After class, there are still many students ask questions and want to take photos with him, he also participated the academic salon.

Professor Petersmann is also a sincere gentleman. When he talks to people, he always tries to pay attention to everyone, listen to them patiently and respond to their opinions politely. And he is always 10 minutes earlier than appointed time.

As the lectures ended, Professor Petersmann left Xiamen, left us with his wisdom and knowledge. We saw a scholar who cares about the world trade development and a scholar who tries his best to achieve the goal and we wish he could come to our law school again someday in the future.

On the 14th of July, the first day of the 2015 Summer Programme, the reference room was already crowded by people even before the lecture began. The lecture which was expected by all the students and teachers was delivered by Prof. Ernst-Ulrich Petersmann, who is the Emeritus Professor of international and European law. Since Professor Petersmann has a rich experience and great sagaciousness, the lecture with the topic of the Methodological Problems in International Economic Law and Adjudication greatly enlightened the studying path of legal methodology in international economic law.

And it is worth mentioning that Professor Petersmann thinks highly of the economic and legal reform in China and posts it as one of the most successful examples in transformation following the globalization.

While giving courses, Professor Petersmann made brief introductions to the basic theories and used many typical cases to interpret relevant mechanisms in GATT and WTO  law. His facetious and salt words made the class full of the sentiment. During the whole series of lectures, Professor Petersmann was always trying to exchange opinions with students. Moreover, he even used his spare time to join the student salon just in order to help students settle their puzzles voluntarily.

Out of the lecture room, Professor Petersmann is a literally gentle and amiable man in life. He is punctual everyday, smiling to everyone he met. Albeit the time of the lectures is limited, Professor Petersmann's lecture still leaves us an indelible impression and precious inspiration on academic fields.
