The Closing Ceremony of the 2023 Summer Program

The closing ceremony of the 2023 Xiamen Academy of International Law commenced at 10:30 am on 21 July 2023.

As the moderator of ceremony, Prof. CHEN Huiping, Secretary-General of the Administrative Council of Xiamen Academy of International Law, announced the beginning of the ceremony. Prof. ZHAO Hong from the Peking University, former Chairperson of the Appellate Body of the World Trade Organization (WTO), delivered an opening speech. She highlighted her teaching experience and appreciated students’ different ideas and viewpoints. Stated that the development of international law requires perspectives of different nations, she hoped that the young generation will succeed in their career and contribute to that course. She also shared her feelings about the city of Xiamen and hoped to have the opportunity to come to this beautiful city for academic exchanges and sharing in the future.

Then Professor ZHU Xiaoqin, the vice dean of Xiamen University School of Law, congratulated the students and expressed gratitude to professors, the supporting team and volunteers that make this journey possible. She also wished the students success in their future studies.

The students then shared their feedback of the three weeks of study. Mr. GUO Mingkun on behalf of the Chinese participants shared his experience during the Summer Program. He believed that this Summer Program provides a good platform for him to study international law. And Mr. Arash Izadi on behalf of oversea participants extended his heartfelt thanks to each and every one of the attendees in the convivial environment. He expressed his sadness at the end of the Summer Program, but was happy to meet new friends and would cherish the friendship with everyone. And in the words from the volunteer representative, Ms. SHAN Yuan highlighted the harvests of knowledge and friendship. She also said she was very honored and happy to be one of the volunteers of this activity.

Certificates for participants and volunteers were awarded after the speeches. All the attendance and volunteers got their certificates, while those outstanding participants and volunteers received the honor from Prof. ZENG Huaqun and Prof. ZHU Xiaoqin respectively.

Afterwards, Professor Zeng Huaqun delivered a summary speech. He expressed his gratitude to all the teachers, students and volunteers for their endeavor for the success of the programme. He posed a question as to why we study International Law and how can International Law be applied into the specific aresa. He emphasized that it is the faith for human rights, peace and better future that help us go further.

The closing ceremony of the 2023 Summer Programme of Xiamen Academy of International Law came to a successful end, but we will not forget this wonderful summer. Let us look forward to our next meeting!
