  • How time flies! We have spent the first week of summer school unconsciously. It was really a wonderful week.

There were four professors giving us classes this week. Namely, Professor Caron who is from UC Berkeley, Professor Blokker who is from the University of Leiden, in the Netherlands, Professor John Chao who is from Taiwan , and the last one is Professor Shearer who is from the University of Sydney.

Professor Caron gave us lectures on international environmental law, including the problems of oceanic environment, the greenhouse effect, climate change, nuclear waste disposal etc. Professor Caron is very humorous, his PPTs have a large number of charts and photographs, and many related materials. Students not only got abundant knowledge, but also grasped the essence of international environmental law.

Professor Blokker gave us lectures on the law of international organizations, including an overview of international organizations, the powers of international organizations, and how to use powers, the decision-making of international organizations and the importance of international organizations in international community etc. Professor Blokker is a logical speaker, and is good at helping students to ponder deeply. There were many students asking and answering questions in his class.

Professor Zhao had special topics in every class, focusing on the themes and the relations between international law. We had three topics this week: international law and the passport; the problem of McMahon line; and diplomatic protection in international law. Professor Chao gave us many interesting examples and made students laugh and got knowledge.

Professor Shearer gave lectures on general international law, and he gave us 12 themes, four of them have been discussed this week. These themes are the history of international law, and the states and the governments of states, the sources of international law and international law of the sea. Professor Shearer is knowledgeable and gave us many cases. We really enjoy his lecture very much.

Each professor had their own characteristic, while each professor got respect from all the students because of their knowledge and personality. Professor Caron is humorous, Professor Blokker is active, Professor Shearer is gentle and cultivated, and Professor Chao is lovely. I recalled that when Professor Caron and Blokker finished their lectures on the last day, students took photos with them for memory. They felt that time flied too fast.

Although we were very busy this week and had classes everyday, all the students felt very happy since they were fed with abundant knowledge.

On Friday night, everyone in our class went to bar for a party under the organization of the class committee. We sang, danced, chatted to celebrate our friendship and the arrival of the weekend. I think it is the best way to finish the first week study in the summer school.
